A book review of Artemis Fowl (book one)

This book is a mix of sci-fi and fantasy. There are fairies, spirits, dwarfs and gnomes.

Artemis Fowl is a guy that really surprised me. Even if he was only 12 years old, he was a super genius, accompanied with his butler, Butler. The Butler family served the Fowl family for a long time… What I haven’t really experienced, is that the main character is an evil super-genius guy. Normally, it would be a hero or just some kind of random guy that does right things. Anyway, as you can see after this review, I have many words that I don’t understand… It does look a lot, but try it once and you will realize that this list is not as long as it seems…

The story is richly decorated with good words (at any rate, for me).  One major thing in the book is when the fairies threatened to put a bio bomb at Fowl’s house (a bio bomb is, in the book, a bomb that vaporizes every human being in the area), they did not even know that Artemis Fowl has one simple way to escape it. A bio bomb is a thing that kills every living thing, however it does not work for those who are in really deep sleep.  The problem is, when you are sleeping, a part of your body is always working, so it’s considered as a “fake sleep” as I call it. What did Fowl do is to eat sleeping pills. Ta-dam. Even if fairies technology is, as in the book says, “aeons ahead of ours”, they can often underestimate their opponent’s chances.

The ultimate goal of Artemis Fowl is to get a LOT of gold, and so by dominating the fairy world. How? He stole what is called a Book, which contains all the information about magical being, even if the Book is really tiny. So, he managed to force a sprite to make a deal: give him the Book for 30 minutes, then Artemis will give it back to him… What did he do? Well, he asked Butler to take the entire Book in photo, copy them and secure it in many different places… But for Artemis, the language in the Book was very difficult to decrypt. If it were up to a human, he would abandon very quickly.
