Every summer, Qiuyu packs his swimming pants, a towel, his clothes and a small lunch; sprays some anti-bugs lotion (insect repellent) on his exposed skin and heads to Sports Montreal for day camp. The idea of sending him to day camp is mainly to fuel his passion for sports and try new activities.
He has taken part in the excitement at Sport Montreal since we moved to this neighborhood in 2012. Sport Montreal provides fun-filled activities that are both physically and intellectually stimulating: name it: basketball; soccer; swimming; tennis; golf; athlete; even ARCHING! Plus, the enthusiasm of the counselors make his week a memorable one. Every Friday, they take a photo of the group and the counselor writes little note on it, encouraging the kid to keep up the good work and enjoy summer more.
Qiuyu has a nickname there: Nuage! I have no idea how they got the idea.
Week #1: Basketball Camp
Qiuyu’s second year with Basketball Camp. He hated it before he went to the camp last year. But as usual, he loved it so much by the end of the first day. Come on, seriously, again? As for new things, can we not complain about it before it starts? Just try it, most likely you will like it! A quote from Christopher Reeve for you:
“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”
Another one from Napoleon Bonaparte:
“The word impossible is not in my dictionary.”
Last one from ME!:
“Impossible only means that you haven’t found the solution yet.”
Week #2: Tennis Camp
For tennis, three of us are fully equipped and were crazy about it for a while back in 2013. There were nice courts near to our home. We sometimes played for 1 hour during the evening, even in chill early winter. Again, I have to admit, Qiuyu is really good at sports.
Qiuyu said he was the best player in the group. No doubt about it!
Week #3: Arching camp
The favorite! Qiuyu made a friend who seemed like a brainy one. He is quite knowledgeable and has amazingly good memory. Qiuyu talks about him all week long. Peer pressure I guess. If you look at the photo I am sure you will recognize that brainy kid.
BTW, do you know what that hand gesture means?
WEEK# 4:Athlete
He liked it! Lots of running, high jumping, hurdle jumping etc.. Was very tired by the end of the day. Another camp that he wants to participate again next year.
Week#5: Multisport
Qiuyu found it a little bit boring. He spent lots of time playing his cube. He even taught the monitor to do it, day by day, step by step.
Week#6: Tennis
For this week, he has a new friend, who participated Pana-America event (no idea how). It is said he is a pretty good tennis player. That makes Qiuyu and him another Qiuyu and Shawn in chess. Qiuyu is very proud that he beats him the other day. The tennis coach is not super young, but seems to be a very strong tennis player. Qiuyu shared with me a story about him and another younger player. It was a fun story and we learned that we should never underestimate anyone. Appearance lies all the time.
