Christmas Chess Tournament 2015

We have been debating for this tournament for a long time. Go? Not to go? In the end, Qiuyu won the debate and was “allowed” to play it: 5 chess games for five evenings in a row, during the holiday.  What a merry Christmas!   Thanks to this tournament,  I had a very quiet Christmas this year and even got the chance to catch up on my reading at the tournament site; while he got the chance to win and lead the section.

He did have a great tournament overall, although the process was not smooth as it looked. As we have discussed before the tournament: the goal of this tournament should be to be patient, slow down, think and play your level. We might not fully reach the goal (it is hard to measure the  effort); but as long as we know where we should be heading and are willing to make efforts, we will get there one day.

The game with Gabriel was a bumpy one: he was behind 2 pawns and then 3 pawns; but still managed to win in the end. Something I learned from QY: fight till the end..Do not lose faith in yourself!

Before tournament, they were asked to take a nap. They did follow the instruction and fell asleep….. Hey, I know you two are “faking”….

It was snowing heavily for the entire day; our car was buried under the snow…Anyways, taking metro is fun too!:

It was the first snow of the year; I have never seen anyone like QY who likes snow so much…  We used to take a shortcut across the big parking lot . But that day it was covered by the snow completely. QY proposed to lead the way and ” pave” a path out of the snow.  He was lying in the snow, face down, literally “swimming” in the snow. I just followed the trail he “made”.    If condition allows, they will wear PJ, rolling in the snow, singing and blablaing until the end of the world… A big cup of hot chocolate will make the journey more pleasant of course. To be honest, I am jealous.
