“Be a chess player not a chess piece!”
The whole day of Grand Prix is not just a chess tournament, it is more a social event.
For parents, it is great time to sit with each other and catch up on the latest gossip and news. It is the time that you find who has moved to Ontario, who has got new house or who just quit upon chess. I usually love going to the chess tournament and hanging out with other like-minded parents.
For most of the time, I will bring my work: a book to catch up on some reading; french vocabulary; website building; photos management etc. VERY busy.
Of course, no matter what the result is, we should always tell our kids that: being here and making efforts to win has already made you a winner. After all, they have the guts to come and to play in this ultimate brain game. They are learning, in one day like this.
Qiuyu did great job that day. 4.5/5, although he did complain about the fact that he was not allowed to play blitz or speed chess at home which resulted in a lost armaggedon playoff against Shawn.
Well, you certainly can blame me if that will make you feel better. But an excuse like this will not make your next tournament easier. Smart practice will.
