With so many hours spent at various chess tournament sites, finally, I’ve got to know the general rules of how to play chess, although I still occasionally misplace king and queen.
I occasionally play chess at home with Simon like once per year and managed to win most of the games by “taking back moves constantly”. I am not very proud of that, to be honest.
That being said, I never played chess in any serious occasions. Until I participated in the International Potluck 2017 Edition hosted by Lefong Hua….
During this event, chess parents played blitz with each other. Isn’t that nice? Parents are sweating and kids are doing pep talk: you will win this, mom/dad!
My first opponent absolutely played better than me. He was calm, composed and had everything it takes to win, until I pinned his king with another big guy (don’t remember it was a rook or a queen). He was suffering quite a bit for a few minutes and gave up several pieces due to the time pressure. I won my first game by checkmating my opponent, although I did not even know he was checkmated until Lefong passed by and pointed this out. Look at that big smile: every piece of me was screaming: o my god, I won!!!
Then my delusion of being the champion was crushed by Alexandra’s father. It was a disastrous game to me. …But the good thing is: we have this amazing photo: two opponents head to head and 2 special spectators watching….
