“Slow is the new fast”. By playing slower is actually the most effective way to speed up and progress in chess.
Whether you can adapt your speed to different types of tournament depends on how you started playing tournaments. Most kids played Chess & Math rated games in the very beginning. It is 25 minutes game, which is called speed chess. In another word, it is speed chess, not CHESS.
If you played too many speed chess, no matter how good you are, when it comes to slow chess, you lose your edge.
At McGil Open, Q U made great progress in terms of slowing down his speed. When he slows down, things are really different. We are glad for him but we also know that playing slower is not just about one tournament. It is about forging this process until it becomes a habit of steel. Habits make the man. Believe it or not, “We are what we repeatedly do.”
A piece of advice for playing your level by playing slower: keep forging the habit of playing slower; don’t break the chain; every single slow game counts.
The head of the chess club is giving a short speech. Everyone is smiling. This picture is considered as one of our family photos:

It is lucky to have a friend who is a strong player and keeps motivating you:
This is the first time Q U plays with the chess trainer of his school:

Q U is pretending to be so focused:
Houji, who will be the next head of the Mcgill Chess Club, is playing side by side with Q U, Q U paid too much attention on Houji’s game which cost his own game:

It is amazing to have them play in this tournament. That is one of the reason that I like this sport. In front of the chess board, you are equal to your opponent; everything is possible:

Overall, he did  a good job and earned 38 points to his FIDE rating.

Playing with friends is always a must at every single tournament:
Mcgill is my favorite spot in this city.  That area and downtown nearby are more like my home..
As usual, we grabbed some ice creme from Eaten Center and hid in Indigo for about one hour..
