Saratoga open 2016

A wonderful weekend in March, 16 young Quebec chess payers headed to Saratoga, New York Spring for State Chess Championship. We proudly made this trip so that we can  cross off another item that we have promised.

Here is the fantastic Quebec team:

The tournament itself is more like Provincial and national championship. Neither titles nor prizes are given. It is a truncated  1 hour game.  But it distributes fantastic trophies. If you are a gorgeous trophy collector, you should go for it:

The tournament room looks fantastic. Of course, the real room is filled with tension. Chess is a brutal sport:

As usual, we have Q and Shawn:

American boys wear cute hat, cool glasses. I think it is a fantastic idea to distract opponents by wearing cool hat and laser colored glasses:IMG_8443

Round 4 with a promising player who previously beat Francine within 20 moves.

Playing Lichess with Prince: David in the back:

There was this huge booth selling all side products related to chess. Q was shopping around:IMG_8479

Have fun playing games with Prince and the captain:

Q lost one game. Based on what he said, he thought he was too cocky after a winning. Yes, humanity always counts when it comes to competition.

While waiting for the ceremony, 4 trophy owners were happily together:

Young players were having fun at the dinner. Trois mousquetaires?

Tyler made this fantastic ice cream thing. Does it remind you of something?:

We had this boring pizza at pizza-hut on the first day: the big knots are impressive though:

On the way back, Q had this seasonal drink- based on the color, I think it is for St. Patrick. So far, it seems to be Q’s favorite drink:
