Chess and Math is having its 30 years’ anniversary! It is amazing how this organization has inspired kids on the path of playing chess. I would forever remember the first day that my son played the tournament organized by Chess and Math.
And 30 years’ history is really something worth celebrating for! They arranged a tournament near Quebec City to celebrate it. Imagine a tournament near a beautiful lake at St Adele, in summer! Hard to focus on the game itself I guess.
Unfortunately, due to my ongoing issues resulted from the annoying surgery, I was not able to accompany Qiuyu for the tournament. Qiuyu and Simon had to commute everyday between Montreal and Adele. Fortunately, it only takes 45 minutes’ driving (or so).
The tournament is meant to be arranged for US and CANADIAN chess players by grades. The following is the final result in Qiuyu’s section:
An interesting fact for this tournament:
Qiuyu’s rating is the highest of all the players (not just his section)
Interestingly, he found that each game was more complex than what he expected. I think this is due to those tournaments that he played against significantly higher-rated players. He pushed himself to explore all the possibilities. Now this thought process has been kept and applied to the current games. I believe it is a sign that he is progressing. His tutor might have different opinions. I need to communicate with him to get things back to the right track.
In the end, he got first place. I am very proud of him. It is proven that whether I show up or not, he will be just as awesome as usual!
