Home, Sweet Home

Changes

Year 2009, we moved from China to Montreal. It was not just a simple moving project, instead, it was a fundamental life change.

Now it is year 2017, we moved again, from District A to C.

The old neighborhood Ahuntsic is peaceful and beautiful, with so many packed good memories.  A casual sunset of a typical summer day can just be as stunning as this:

Our new home is located at the end of a short street, extremely quiet.  It has a big yard, a lot of sunlight, and it has a closed kitchen, which had been everything that I wanted. More importantly, it is quite close to QU’s new school, which was our priority when we were in the process of house searching.  The decision was made under very tight time frame.  Thanks to our dearest families and friends! Without all your help, we cannot make this happen.

House Makeover

The previous house owners have made great efforts on taking care of the house. It is in a condition that you can move in immediately without any renovation. Due to the hectic schedule of chess tournaments in summer, we decided to only focus on one project: turn the spare room into a study room for QU.

The idea is basically composed of just 2 parts: wall library; super long desk. I I made the design; Simon executed it perfectly.

The study room has a super long desk. It has an additional extensible leaf that can make the desk even longer. If we have more than 12 guests coming for dinner, we would extend the table and make the study room into a temporary dining room.

Now, QU has a wall library for his books, a super long table for his homework, and a big monitor at far distance to reduce the negative impact from long screen time. It looks exactly as what I expected!

Group Therapy Practiced Here

With a little work, now we have a coffee station: a sweet home for my favorite cappuccino machine.  QU drew everything on the chalk wall: Group therapy practiced here.

Now my morning caramel latte smells the best, tastes the best and looks just gorgeous:

As the only woman under the roof, I was supposed to take care of the garden by planting glowers and trees, but I missed the time, will have to wait for another year.

When winter comes, we put the 3 little deer on our small front yard; it just warms me up at cold night:

The deck is lit throughout the winter time:

We still keep our little Christmas tree; it witnessed us from NDG to District A then back to C:

You never understand what “Home, Sweet Home” means until you put in your good effort establishing it.
