We work in the dark to serve the light – Assassin’s Creed

I watched this movie a few weeks ago, and just by watching the trailer, I was impressed by its chase scenes and their ninja-like outfits. This movie is based on the Assassin’s Creed video game, and the people who play that game are the ones who criticize this movie the most.

Spoiler Alert!

The movie began in Spain around 1492, with the protagonist (Aguilar) agrees to join the Creed. The Apple of Eden, a supreme artifact that would purge the world of violence, but at the same time would take away the free will of people and make them obedient, is a sphere that is researched by the Templar Empire (the “bad guys”).

At the time, Spain was dominated by the Templar except for Granada, the small village that stood and faced against the leading empire. Once its heritor was kidnapped, it became no more and Spain was conquered. A series of events involving the Assassins trying to free the kidnapped child followed. The Assassins were captured and led to an arena where they were to be burnt alive. Obviously, the filmmakers didn’t want the protagonist to die, so Aguilar had to free himself from his chains and escape.

The sole goal of the Assassin’s Creed was to protect and keep the Apple of Eden. In 1964, Carl’s mother (Carl is the protagonist of the modern world) was murdered by his father. He then ran away as the Templar of the modern world came to arrest his father. Later on, Carl murdered someone and was sentenced to death.

The movie went on with Carl resuscitated in the Animus building (one of the Templar’s headquarters for research for the Apple of Eden). The directors of the Animus traced Carl’s bloodline back 500 years ago, to his ancestor, Aguilar, who was the last known to have possession of the Apple of Eden. With the Animus, Carl “went back into the past” as he could see, feel and hear the same things his ancestor did. There, the Templars wanted to dig into Carl’s memory to know where exactly the Apple of Eden was hidden.

Finally, they made it, and the Templars took possession of it. What they had overlooked was that with Carl’s traveling back to his ancestor’s past, he gained the strength and the skills of his ancestor. Then, he went to where the Templars were, killed the leader, and stole the Apple of Eden

It is said that there will be a trilogy, with two following movies coming in the near future.

I liked the way the camera depicted the chase scenes under different angles, and I also liked how the story involved the present and the past at the same time. I found the outfit of the Assassins very cool (because they look like a ninja). In conclusion, the only thing that was bad in this movie was that the story was predictable. I give an 8/10 rating to this movie. I recommend it to children around 12 years old who like action and chase scenes, and to those who play that video game.
